I am now taking a sreroid called Mometasone. I am taking it for eczema. I had was aked today if I was taking steroids because it looked as if I had moonface. I replied,Yes. But I never heard of moonface until I was asked that Question. Should I call my doctor? How do I know if I have moonface? What are the symptoms? Help!!!

Heh. Have you read about me and prednisone? I'm not likely to be a person to recommend it. :p

Oh and tell Josh it's not just mood swings, it's actual psychotic breaks. Whee!

Yeah, I wasn't too happy with the idea of taking something with potentially hideous side effects if I don't really need to. If I had a really awful case of shingles, I'd be more inclined to take the prednisone, but as it is, ibuprofen and neutrogena anti-itch cream are doing the job just fine. And they won't give me moon face, buffalo hump, or psychotic mood swings.

The other thing about prednisone and Josh -- and Josh, let me know if you don't want me spilling all your medical details like this -- is that he has high blood pressure. So there's an extra reason for caution.

I took prednisone twice, for about two weeks each time. Plus side: no funny side effects. Minus side: as soon as I finished the course, the eczema came right back. So I dunno.

The firewall at work is weird. I tried to follow the villains link and it says Restricted: Pornography. I don't think even Breathless Mahoney showed much skin.

Whew. Yes, what you said.

Looks like Josh won't be taking the prednisone after all; the doctor at his regular GP's clinic agrees that it's not necessary for his case and shouldn't be prescribed lightly.

One of the things I came away from anatomy & physiology with engraved in my brain was that steroids are volitile, scary chemicals you do not want to mess around with. I don't care if they are cortico-steroids or anabolic steroids or just your basic sex hormones, they have a lot to do with the shaping and maintenence of body form and function. Which doesn't mean they should never be prescribed, only that the advantages and disadvantages have to be thoroughly weighed, you need to monitor your reactions carefully, and you don't want to be taking them "just because". All of which Josh and you seem cogent of, of course. Whew.
