“nightmare traffic” on its way

I was vaguely hoping to get some breakfast with friends in West Seattle this weekend, go to a cocktail party, and a few other things, but maybe I’ll just hang around the neighborhood instead: “Expect nightmare weekend traffic: Gay pride fest, Lake Union concerts, I-5 lane closures will create perfect storm”, from the Seattle P-I. Aii.

Hey, you know what would be great for Seattle? Hosting the Olympics!

Heh. I get to drive to Spanaway for my 4-year-old niece’s dance recital. Guess who will be taking the route south via the Eastside?

If Seattle could schedule the Olympics at the same time we are tearing down the Viaduct and repaving I-5, I would be delighted. (to be living in Bham:)

If only we could remove and rebuild the 520 bridge at the same time!

You know, Seattle did host the Goodwill Games in 1990. Unfortunately, like now, I was in NC!

Uh, I meant to ask if the traffic was bad then? Things probably weren’t considering it was 15 years ago, but I was just wondering.

Darned if I know. I was working up to 80 hours a week — at those very Goodwill Games, actually — so I was always at work when it was rush hour. Even when I was travelling to and from work, I got pretty good at sacking out on the bus for just the right amount of time.
