Heck yeah: bakasana

For one tiny, wobbly, inelegant moment I actually managed to lift off the floor and hold Bakasana today. Unless you count front and modified side planks (and I don’t) this is my first arm balance ever. Whee!

Update: and then I tried demonstrating it for Josh. I lifted up pretty well and held it a little longer, and then I nearly fell over onto my nose, yelling, “AAAAACK!” in a most unyogini-ish way. Heh. Okay, then, here’s my hypothesis: it’s called “Crow Pose” because of all the squawking. (“Everybody falls when learning this pose,” huh? Good to know.)

Yay! That’s awesome. :) Crow Pose is hard on the upper arms, I’ve always hated the way my knees feel digging into my arms. I just learned sideways crow on Friday, it actually seemed to hurt my armpits less because I wasn’t balancing my knees but instead my hip and the side of my knee.

Heh, I like your hypothesis, but I think it’s crow pose because your hands look like little crow feet and your feet sticking out the back look like wing tips.

Heh, yeah, I’m sure you’re right about the reason it’s crow pose. But I enjoy my silly hypothesis all the same. :)

Sideways crow! Hardcore! That looks like it feels mighty interesting in the obliques.

Where Crow really got me was in the shoulder stabilizers. I’m still relatively weak in the shoulders. (That’s up from being incredibly weak in the shoulders, so I’m actually bragging.) I think it’s going to be a good pose for me, if I take it slowly.
