Biking to Wallingford
Today Josh and I went to Wallingford to hear his aunt read from her new book, Red Studio, after which we had some dinner and picked up some cupcakes at Trophy.
Lured by cupcakes (mmm), I’d been wanting to try to get up to Wallingford for a while, but we’d never found a route that looked comfortable. I think we’ve come pretty close today to finding our way up that hill.
No way would I have managed that even four months ago. I was feeling all hardcore when we got back, right up until chatting with our neighbor who’d just come back from riding around around Mercer Island. Yeah, well.

A++, would snack again. By the time we got there, there were only snowball cupcakes and Guiness-chocolate cupcakes left, but they were plenty tasty. And aren’t their cupcakes pretty?

Hey, hardcore is a completely relative term. Go, Cam!

Hey Cam, which route did you take? It sounds like you rode down the Burke Gilman and then back up into Wallingford?
Going up there are a few decent options, but I like Woodlawn Park Ave pretty well. It isn’t too steep and doesn’t get much traffic. It is on the wrong side of Stone though.
I normally don’t go to the B/G to get over to Wallingford. It is pretty flat if you take 65th (or your favorite backroad alternatives) over to Greenlake and then follow that down to Stone. You can also go 65th to Latona to 56th to Meredian…the only hill there is going up Latona (but it is smaller than going up from the B/G).
