My del.icio.us bookmarks for July 2nd through July 7th
These are my links for July 2nd through July 7th:
- Puget Sound Blood Center: how to donate blood and bone marrow – Finally, I am cleared to donate blood! (Not bone marrow, though.) They can use it, too; stocks are very low right now. I’ll be giving my first donation on Friday. This makes me happy, even though I’m a little squeamish about needles.
- Restoring Scents: Science News Online, July 7, 2007 – Experimental treatments may improve the sense of smell in people who don’t detect odors well. Common causes of smell loss in middle age: polyps and chronic inflammation of the nose from infections. (Could saline irrigation preserve a sense of smell?)
- Seattle Parks and Recreation: Activities – Bicycle Saturdays & Sundays – Lake Washington Boulevard south of Mount Baker Beach will be closed to motorized traffic during the day on certain days. There are six more car-free days this year, the last on September 16. Whee!
- Jeremiad at The Ladybug Letter – A history of mesclun in America.
- TED | Talks | Hans Rosling: New insights on poverty and life around the world (video) – In a follow-up to his now-legendary TED2006 presentation, Hans Rosling demonstrates how developing countries are pulling themselves out of poverty.
- Dorodango – Shiny Japanese mud balls. Mitchell and I discussed this as a possible method of finishing a cob oven. High-risk, though!
