My del.icio.us bookmarks for October 2nd through October 8th
These are my links for October 2nd through October 8th:
- Boston Review — Slave Trade On Trial - Lessons of a great human-rights law success.
- jaylake: [fiction] “The Last Days of Yokohama Sid’s Used Ferris Wheel Lot” - A hallucination in ten voices.
- Organic, and Tastier: The Rat’s Nose Knows - New York Times - A chitosan solution markedly raised the production of aromatic compounds in basil. This sounds like something I’d like to try at home.
- Think Before You Pink - Introduces the term “pinkwashers”: companies that say they care about breast cancer by promoting a pink ribbon campaign, but manufacture products that actually promote the disease. (Hint: feeling good about that pink PVC bottle of water? Think again.)
- Save Boeing Surplus! - Boeing Surplus is closing its doors? Nooooooo!

I was somewhat flabbergasted to walk thru QFC the other day and be confronted by a huge endcap display of pink Campbell’s soup cans. It was surreal.

The pink-ribboned Sutter Home cheap wine makes me maddest. Alcohol is a known risk factor. I don’t abstain completely, but to me that pink ribbon is a big old lie.
In better news, I just bought myself the Kleen Kanteen 12-oz flat-cap stainless steel water bottle. It fits in all but the smallest purses. I can’t remember when I first heard about it (you may already have one) but if not, I recommend it.

Thanks for the link about Boeing Surplus. I just wrote a letter to try to keep it alive!
