When you said you had a tender heart, I didn’t imagine…

Some valentine!

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Hearts are meat
And so are you.

And the corny line that goes with it is…

    Would you be my meatheart?

    Hee!

My kittehs LOVE heart in their Cat Fudz. I just got several packages of pork heart for them, albeit not in nifty heart-shaped plastic.

I actually like heart myself, though even my husband squirms at this. I braise it, then grind it up and add mayo, and pickle relish, and some spices, and use it for sandwich spread. It’s really healthy and yummy! Really! except for the bit that grosses everyone out, of course. :P

I personally like beef heart too, and sometimes fried it with potatoes and garlic. Also it was an economic secret — just as nutritious and good as any steak but very cheap.
Unfortunately in Japan heart isn’t considered a “by-product” at all, so it’s just as expensive as any other beef.

Ha ha ha! I saw that too at Safeway and almost bought it. It was a thicker cut of meat then I wanted so I bought the thin cut rib eye.

Usually we go out somewhere fancy for valentines, but can’t this year. So I thought I would make something easy and quick. I did buy fancy Hawaiian salt with chili pepper spices because Jon loves chili pepper. I was all ready to cook when Derek started fussing, so Jon said that he’ll cook for me while I fed the kid.
Unfortunately, Jon not only way overcooked the steaks; he nearly poisoned us by over salting the meat. He thought it was spices with a little Hawaiian Salt (which is like huge chunks of sea salt), not Hawaiian Salt with seasonings. The salt had penetrated the meat at that point so we couldn’t even scrape it off. He was so sad, but we ate it anyways… I wonder if my breast milk was super salty the next day…
