Herons at the UW
Did you know that there are herons nesting at the south end of campus? Occasionally you can see them from the bus stop near the medicinal herb gardens. My camera phone didn’t capture them well, but there’s a gorgeous slideshow that Bruce Hemingway put together of one of the nests last year.

Why are my sentences extra-awkward right now? I’m going to blame my lack of coffee. I haven’t had any since last Wednesday and the fog is just now starting to lift.

Pretty slideshow.
There’s a heron we see sometimes at Greenlake but it looks different, I guess it’s not a blue heron? Every now and then we see it in flight, just an amazing wingspan. When flying, it doesn’t even look real, the wings beat so slowly it looks like a cheap special effect.
Are you staying off of caffeine for now?

There are little green herons at the lake too, or there have been, but your description of “amazing wingspan” and “doesn’t look real” makes me think that you’re seeing a great blue heron. How different does it look?
I’m staying off caffeine for the next week or so; I have some early morning stuff to do that doesn’t mesh well with coffee. I’m over the physical addiction now, but I still miss it.
